After finishing my latest manuscript in 5 weeks, you’d think I’d take a break, but no. Last week I started a new project in a brand new genre for me (Gothic historical fiction, think Laura Purcell) and managed to write 9000 words. I can sleep when I’m dead, or at least when I don’t have all these ideas buzzing around in my head. The characters just wouldn’t leave me alone, and so I just had to start writing this book. I’m super excited about it, even though it’s totally out of contract and may never see the light of day. But, while I’m waiting for other things to come to fruition, I may as well use my time wisely. I’m leaning towards publishing under a pseudonym, something suitably historical fiction-y, but maybe I should finish the thing first.
In other news, the final proofread for The Wake is due back early next month, and then it’ll be going out to reviewers – eek! I can’t wait to share this one with you, it’s a book I’m really proud of and I hope you love it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Publication October 27th!
Oh, and Girl, Lost sadly didn’t make it onto the Not The Booker shortlist, but huge thanks to everyone who took the time to vote for it! Congratulations to the winners and to my fellow longlisters.
